There’s a good choice of tacos, quesadillas, nachos and fajitas, with smaller plates making it easy to order a few different things for the table. The Baja fish tacos are well worth a look, alongside prawn, meat and vegetarian options.
Taco Tuesday is a popular night here, and there’s regular live music if you’re heading in later. Unlike most of the Mexican restaurants on our list, Sinaloa also opens early and serves breakfast, so it’s not purely an evening spot.

Taco Casa has been around in Bali for years, serving fresh Mexican grill food made from scratch rather than relying on ready-made ingredients. Tortillas, salsas and sauces are prepared in-house, with tacos, burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas making up much of the menu.
Portions are generous, and there are plenty of ways to customise your meal with different fillings, toppings and levels of spice. The Petitenget branch is our pick here, although Taco Casa also has locations elsewhere in Bali.

Jalapeño – Sanur

Jalapeño is a long-standing Sanur favourite for casual Tex-Mex, with a colourful, laid-back setting that works just as well for families as it does for dinner and drinks.
Tacos are a big part of the menu, including beef, pulled pork and crispy fish, or you can go bigger with burritos, loaded nachos and plates from the grill.
It’s an easy-going place rather than anything fancy, with generous portions and plenty of dishes that work well for sharing.

There are plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan choices too. It’s a particularly good option if you’re staying around Legian and want Mexican food by the beach rather than heading inland for dinner.

Johnny Tacos is a small, no-frills taco joint tucked just off Kartika Plaza, and tacos really are the point here. Pick from chicken, pulled pork, beef, mahi-mahi, shrimp or veggie fillings, with simple toppings of onion, coriander and lime. The mahi-mahi fish tacos are particularly worth trying.
It opens early too, with bacon, egg and cheese tacos giving the menu a Mexican breakfast twist. There are vegetarian and vegan choices, and you can order individual tacos or put together a combo if you’re hungry.

Taco Island Bali – Canggu

Taco Island is all about birria, and they put some serious time into making it. Beef shank is slow-cooked for eight hours before going into their crispy birria tacos, served with rich consommé for dipping, while the corn tortillas are pressed by hand.
There’s also a jackfruit version for vegetarians, and if tacos aren’t enough, try the birria pizza. It’s a small, casual street-food-style place in Canggu rather than a big restaurant, with another Taco Island now open in Seminyak.

Taqisa Mexican Food – Sanur

Taqisa is a family-run Mexican restaurant in Sanur, using recipes passed down through generations and making its food from scratch with local ingredients. The menu is deliberately simple: choose tacos, a burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos or torta, then add your filling.
There’s plenty of choice, from carne asada and slow-braised carnitas to chicken tinga and Baja fish. Vegetarians aren’t an afterthought either, with chipotle tofu, mushroom and bean and roasted corn among the options. The handmade corn tortilla tacos are a particularly good place to start.

Mezcal Mexican Restaurant & Meat Smoking House – Lovina

Mezcal gives us something a bit different up in North Bali, bringing Mexican food together with a proper meat-smoking house. This is one for the meat lovers, with smoked brisket, pulled meats and other barbecue favourites alongside tacos and Mexican dishes.
The smoking-house side is what really sets it apart from most places on our list, particularly if you’re after something heavier than a few tacos. There’s also a full bar, and the restaurant is on the main Seririt-Singaraja road just west of central Lovina.
A very handy one to know, too; you don’t have to head south every time you’re craving Mexican food.

Don Juan Mexican Restaurant & Bar – Kuta

The menu is extensive, with tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas and plenty of sharing dishes. Portions are generous, with a good choice for vegetarians as well as meat and seafood lovers. There’s plenty going on behind the bar too, including their homemade sangria, which you can order by the glass or pitcher.
It’s a relaxed place for lunch, but also works well for a group of friends settling in for food and drinks later in the day. The central Kuta location means there’s no shortage of action going on outside either.

Sonora Mexican Kitchen – Sanur

Sonora is a small, relatively new addition to Sanur’s Mexican food scene, and a bit of a wildcard on our list. It doesn’t have the history or big reputation of some of Bali’s established Mexican restaurants, but early signs are very promising.
It’s an intimate little restaurant with a straightforward menu focused on freshly prepared Mexican food, rather than trying to be a huge bar or entertainment venue.
If you’re staying in Sanur and fancy trying somewhere that hasn’t already appeared on every Bali restaurant list for years, Sonora is well worth knowing about.

The birria is another standout, made with braised short rib and melted cheese and served with consommé for dipping. Uluwatu also has tostadas, ceviche and churros on the menu.
Things get livelier throughout the week, with regular music and events including Taco Tuesday, Fiesta Friday and Tipsy Tacos on Saturday.

Juanita’s Tacos – Nusa Dua

Juanita’s has a huge menu, going well beyond the tacos suggested by the name. There are burritos, fajitas, quesadillas and chimichangas, plus wet burritos covered in homemade enchilada sauce.
The tacos come with a choice of soft tortillas or crunchy corn shells, with fillings including chicken, beef, pulled pork and breaded mahi-mahi. Vegans get a proper option too, made with BBQ pulled jackfruit, corn and fresh vegetables rather than simply leaving the meat off.
We’re featuring the Nusa Dua restaurant, but Juanita’s also has a location over in Ungasan.

Adriana takes Mexican food up to the rooftop, sitting eight floors above Jimbaran with wide-open views towards the coast. Come around sunset and the setting is a big part of the appeal, with colourful indoor and outdoor spaces and plenty of room to settle in for the evening.
The kitchen is headed by Mexican chef Gerardo Milán, with tacos, fajitas, quesadillas and plenty of dishes from the grill. Fresh ingredients are sourced locally where possible, with a few harder-to-find ingredients brought over from Mexico.
Drinks get just as much attention, with a long tequila selection and signature cocktails created by the in-house mixologist. After sunset, things pick up with salsa nights, live music and DJs on selected evenings.

There’s a good choice of vegan food too, alongside burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and loaded nachos. Save some room for the churros, which come with Lola’s much-loved caramel dipping sauce.
